As August whizzes by you are doing everything you can to get your kids ready to go back to school, physically and emotionally. Tensions are high as your kid's moods vary from excitement to nervousness about the impending first day back.
That’s why we’re here to share with you a few tips and tricks to get your kids excited and relaxed about returning to school. 1. Get Your Child Organized Keeping their tools and supplies organized all year is a challenge for most young children. Keep in mind they are learning as they go along to become more independent every day. Help them keep their backpacks organized by giving them the correct tools for organization such as folders, binders, pencil cases, etc. Not only will your kids thank you, but their teachers will also be impressed by the prepared student in their class. 2. Establish an Effective Routine Mornings set the tone for the rest of your child’s day. It is important to get them into the swing of a routine to ensure the morning always goes as smoothly as possible before they head to school. To make it easier for them to get into a routine before school, you could try waking them up at normal school times a week or two before school starts. That way they’ll already be a little prepared for the early morning hours of school days. 3. Never Let Them Leave Without Breakfast Along with organizing a healthy routine for the morning, breakfast should always be an important step in their routine. It’s easy to skip breakfast, especially with how crazy weekday mornings can be with everyone rushing around. We suggest if they don’t have time for a sit-down meal before heading out the door, keep things like granola bars or fruit on hand for them to grab on their way out. It’s better than nothing and will help to start their day on the right track. 4. Encourage Getting Things Ready the Night Before Nothing makes a busy morning less busy than getting what you can prepare the night before. Encourage your kids to pick out their clothes, pack their lunch, or even shower the night before instead of leaving it for the morning. This will only make the next morning run that much more smoothly setting the tone for the busy day ahead of them. 5. Chat About Safety You can never give your children enough wisdom about safety. Review with them the rule of their school and explain to them why those rules are in place. By doing this they won’t feel like they are being lectured to listen, rather they will feel more comfortable with listening to directions in case of an emergency situation because they will know the reasoning behind it. Teach them about things like fire drills or lockdown drills so if the situation ever arises they won’t be scared. The more you teach them, the more at ease they will feel. In Conclusion Setting your children up for greatness before school is important and it’s not difficult to do. By utilizing the tips above your kids will feel safe in their new school environment and their teachers will thank you in the long run. If you would like more information about Foundations Christian School, please contact us! Many parents have realized that the public school system has failed their children in more ways than one. Whether they're frustrated with Common Core, or their children are being bullied, Christian parents are seeking an alternative to traditional public school for their children.
At Foundations Christian School, we make it a priority to invest in the children in our care each day. When parents bring their kids in for the day, they leave with the knowledge that every area of their lives is being addressed, including the spiritual aspect that is so important for their overall growth as Christians. Perhaps you can relate to those feelings of not being satisfied with public school, or maybe you've always wanted to homeschool your kids, but you've found that it's simply not a possibility for your family at this time. Foundations Christian School would love to have your family join ours, and here are five excellent reasons why our school is the perfect place for your kids. 1. Lower Tuition Rates - When Foundations Christian School was started, we were fully aware of how high private Christian school tuition could be in the Big Flats area of New York. We decided to make it our goal to keep tuition costs low so that families who desired to send their kids to Christian school could afford to do so. In addition, we offer volunteer opportunities for parents to join in on the fun at FCS, and when parents volunteer, they become eligible to have tuition discounts based on how often they give of their time. This is a win-win for everyone because we love serving our families and we love having parents assisting us at school. 2. Smaller Classroom Sizes - When classes are filled with 25 or more children, it's next to impossible for everyone to get the help they need from the teacher. Even when classes have a teacher's aid, it's still difficult. At FCS, we keep our classroom sizes small because we believe that kids who need extra help should be able to receive it. We've found that this maximizes the time they spend in the classroom, and it also allows them to be so much more successful in their studies. 3. Deeper Relationships with God - Everything we do at FCS is centered around God. Prayer is a major component of everything we do in a day; whether it's praying together before school starts in the morning, or it's praying for a classmate who has a serious prayer request. We want to demonstrate God's love for our students in the way we interact with them, and we've successfully woven Scripture and Bible stories into so many aspects of what we teach. The kids are committing God's Word to their hearts, and they're learning more about how much God loves them every single day. 4. Special Classes - At FCS, our special classes are so important, and we've worked hard to make sure they enrich the lives of our students. Our music program is excellent, and the kids frequently participate in performances to demonstrate their musical abilities. They've even taken on the challenge of two and three-part harmonies. They also enjoy art classes with various types of projects, and they get plenty of exercise during gym class. Our special classes are some of the best parts of our day, and we think the kids agree. 5. Personal Responsibility - Finally, because FCS is located in a very busy church setting, the kids are tasked with taking responsibility for their own personal space and belongings. The church is always so full of life, and they've become an important part of the culture there. They all help to clean up after lunch, and they assist the teachers with collecting trash and making sure the space we use is ready for church on Sunday morning. If you're interesting in learning more about Foundations Christian School and the type of education your children can experience, we will be having an Open House on Thursday, April 7th from 6:30 to 8pm. We would love to meet you and your kids so that you can get a sense for the community we offer at FCS. Also, if you are interested in a personal tour of our school, please contact our principal, Carrie Alo directly, at 607-271-1116. Above all, we love the children that God has entrusted into our care. It gets even worse when you're trying to get back into the swing of things after a long Christmas break. Even so, here at Foundations Christian School in Big Flats, New York, we want to be sure your kids are ready and eager to learn once they get to school. That's why it's important for you as a parent to be sure your kids eat a healthy breakfast before they come to school.
Fasting All Night In your kids' minds, they're just sleeping all night. However, their bodies are under the impression that they're actually fasting. Hence the name for breakfast. Eating a good breakfast gives their brains a healthy dose of glucose, which is the fuel the brain uses to do its job. Without breakfast, children can end up confused about what they're supposed to be doing when they're in class, and critical information is almost impossible for them to maintain for any period of time. Energy For most parents, they wake up in the morning and stumble toward the coffee pot with maybe only one eye open. Their real energy doesn't come around until after they've had at least one cup of coffee. While you don't want to give your kids coffee, for obvious reasons, they do need to wake up, just like you do. Giving them a healthy breakfast not only fuels their brains, but it also fuels their bodies for the day that lies ahead of them. Academic Success Studies have been done regarding the differences between children who do eat breakfast and those who don't, or who eat unhealthy food for breakfast. In every single study, it's amazing how much better the grades are for those students who eat a healthy meal first thing in the morning. Your child's academic success depends in part on making sure he or she is getting a nutritious meal before leaving home. Quick Breakfast Ideas Are you pressed for time first thing in the morning? There are plenty of healthy breakfast options out there that you can fix for your kids in a hurry. Try:
Here at Foundations Christian School, we've been spending a lot of time with your kids and we understand just how hard it is for them to concentrate on their schoolwork this time of year. After all, it's Christmas! There are presents to look forward to, yummy goodies to snack on and family to visit. It's a busy time of year, to say the least!
However, we also work really hard to make sure they understand how important it is for them to remember that Christmas isn't just about all of the presents they'll get on Christmas morning. It's about Jesus and we celebrate His birth on this glorious day. We thought you might have a little bit of a tough time keeping them reminded of this truth as we all head of to Christmas break, so we thought we'd offer you some ideas to help. Give Jesus a Gift Jesus was the greatest gift we could have received from God. How often do we give something back to Him? As a family, try to come up with a way you can give Jesus something this Christmas. It might be changing a specific behavior pattern, or it might be blessing your elderly neighbor with a plate of homemade chocolate chip cookies. No matter what you choose, Jesus will be thrilled with your thoughtfulness in His honor on His birthday. Read the Christmas Story Before you even begin to open your presents, take a few minutes and read the Christmas story together as a family. There are several versions of it found in the gospels and it helps to center our minds on what's truly important during Christmas. Once you're done, pray and thank God for sending His Son to this earth. Remember, your kids will mirror what they see you do, and what's important to you will become important to them. Find a Way to Serve There are so many ways you can serve others on Christmas. The Arctic League is always looking for volunteers to hand out toys to children on Christmas morning, and many families make this a tradition every single year. Talk to God and ask the Holy Spirit how you can serve others with your children on Christmas. We're excited about the upcoming break, just like your family is excited. We hope you all have a safe and happy Christmas and a wonderful New Year! If you want more information about Foundations Christian School, we are still actively looking for enrollments. Our hearts are so full of love for the children in our care each day, but there's always room for more! Please contact us to get more information. We've had such a wonderful year here at Foundations Christian School. It's hard to believe that it's already Christmas! Our students have been working so hard to present our annual Christmas concert, which will take place this Thursday, December 10 at 7pm right here at our school.
We feel that it's really important for kids to understand why we're celebrating Christmas. Too many children are so focused on presents and what they're going to get for Christmas, and they fail to remember the most important gift of all - JESUS! We're excited to hear our students as they present Scripture verses that point to the real meaning behind why we celebrate Christmas, and with beautiful music, it's sure to be a night that we'll all remember. We hope you'll plan on joining us! Perhaps you're reading this and you're interested in finding out more about how a Christian school could impact your family. Our families love Foundations Christian School so much, and we would for your family to become a part of ours! Please contact us if you would like more information about a Christian education at Foundations Christian School in Big Flats, New York. We're still accepting new students for the 2015-2016 school year! |
