1/29/2014 0 Comments Tax Time Is Upon Us!It's the end of January, and we all know what that means - It's just about time for us to start thinking about filing our tax returns. If you're a Foundations Christian School family, we'd like to remind you that you can deduct the money you paid for school tuition for your children on your tax returns this year. Statements from Grace Church of the Nazarene have already gone home, so check with your kids if you haven't received yours yet. If you're still missing a statement because it got misplaced somehow, please be sure to contact the school to request another copy. Also, when you're paying your tuition for the coming year, our school Administrator, Jordan Winderl would like to remind everyone that it's important for you to pay with a check, or a credit or debit card. There are some families who pay with cash each month, which can cause a lot of problems in accounting. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Jordan. We're so thankful for all of our Foundations Christian School families, and if you haven't heard, the school is growing by leaps and bounds since the kids have all returned from their Christmas break. We're excited about the great things God has in store for us this year, and we want to encourage you to become a part of it. If you're tired of public school, and you want to give your kids the opportunity to embrace a Christian education, Foundations Christian School in Horseheads is the answer you've been looking for. Open enrollment starts soon, so contact us for more information today! Image courtesy of ddpavumba / FreeDigitalPhotos.net

The Evolution Vs. Creation debate has been going on for as long as anyone can remember. The first week of February, the students at Foundations Christian School have a unique opportunity, and we would like to extend the invitation to YOU as well! On February 4, 2014, Bill Nye (The Science Guy) and Ken Ham will come together in a debate that's sure to be talked about long after it's over. They'll be debating Evolution Vs. Creationism, and it's an event you won't want to miss. The debate itself will be taking place at The Creation Museum in Cincinnati, Ohio. However, because the tickets for the live debate sold out in only two minutes, and because this event has gotten so much media attention from all over the world, the museum has been working overtime to find a way to make it available to people all over the world. Grace Church of the Nazarene and Foundations Christian School will be hosting a webcast of the debate in real time on February 4, 2014 at 7:00 pm. All Foundations Christian School students in grades 3-9 are encouraged to attend, and extra credit will be available for them as well. If you have a student attending the school, or if you would just love to watch this incredible debate take place, we would love to have you join us. These are the types of events we love to present to the kids at Foundations Christian School. It's a wonderful educational opportunity for them, and it's a great outreach opportunity as well. If you would like more information about Foundations Christian School, we would love to talk with you! If you're not involved yet, you're missing out! We've had a few new students start attending the school, and we've had many inquiries about students who either want to get started as soon as possible, or who will begin attending school here in September. God has truly blessed us this year, and as we can see...He's not done yet! For many of our students, attending Foundations Christian School has been a life-changing experience. Our pre-schoolers are truly blessed because they're getting a great start in their education. Many of our older students have had to make some real adjustments in the way they learn, but now that 2014 is underway, they're all doing a great job. One of the best things about Foundations Christian School is the fact that students are able to learn in the ways that work the best for them. Some of them excel at reading and writing, and they're getting plenty of opportunities to learn at their own pace, which is faster than some of the other students. Each student is treated as an individual, and their coursework is tailored according to their needs and the way they learn. As a result, if a student is really doing well in a particular subject, and even doing coursework ahead of schedule, they're challenged, instead of having to wait for others to catch up to them. If you're a parent with a child in public school, you might be feeling discouraged because your child isn't being challenged on a regular basis. Perhaps you felt that your own education lacked something when you were younger, and you want to provide your son or daughter with opportunities you never had. Foundations Christian School is the perfect place for them. Beginning February 3, 2014, we will begin our Open Registration for the new school year. This is the perfect time to contact Jordan Winderl, our school administrator, and get your questions answered about how a Christian education could benefit your child in so many ways. We are really excited about the great things that God has in store for Foundations Christian School. We'd love for you to be a part of that growth! If you would like more information about Foundations Christian School, we'd love to talk with you. Christmas break is officially over, and that means it's time to get back into the swing of things with your regular school schedule. For many of us, that meant no more sleeping in until eight o'clock, and rushing around this morning to get everyone out the door at the right time. I would definitely be included in that "sleeping in" group. This morning as I attempt to get back into my own routine of working from home, in a nice, quiet house, I can't help but think about some New Year's resolutions that many of us should be making this month. I'm not talking about the ones we make every year. You know the ones I'm talking about; the resolutions we forget about right around March or April. No, I'm talking about some brand new resolutions that will benefit our families in more ways than one during the coming year. Let's talk about a few of them, shall we? Organization For many parents, organization is something we've only heard about, or occasionally read about in magazines. Wouldn't it be great if you really could be organized this year? Imagine all of the headaches you wouldn't have to suffer through if things went smoothly each morning before school. To start, why not try to do as much of your morning routine as you can the night before? Have the kids get their clothes out for the next day, make lunches ahead of time, etc. You won't turn into Martha Stewart overnight, but you'll definitely avoid looking for that one lost mitten every morning, or those mad scrambles to find something for show and tell. Not that my kid has ever missed show and tell... ;-) Devotions Parents, sometimes we forget that we are the most important role models our kids have. Yes, sending them to a Christian school is important, but it's also important to model Christian values at home too. For starters, this year, make doing your own private devotions the most important task you accomplish each day. You'll be amazed at how spending a little time in the Word of God will fuel you for the other things you have to do that day. In addition, share something from the Bible with your kids in the morning. Even if you only read them one verse, that little bit of devotion time is just as important as making sure they eat a good breakfast before they walk out the door. Prayer In addition to doing devotions alone and with our kids, we need to be in constant prayer. Paul gives us one short command in 1 Thessalonians 5:17 when he says, "Pray continually." Of course, he doesn't mean that God wants us to forsake everything else we have to do in a day just to lock ourselves in our prayer closets. No, he means that we should remain in an attitude of prayer all day long. Teach your children to begin their days with a "Good morning God", and then show them how to carry on that conversation with him as they go to school, hang out with their friends, and go to bed at night. Also, be sure to spend some time each day praying over your children. If it helps you, make a prayer list for each of your kids, and bring your desires for them before God. It's amazing the transformation you will see, even after just a short period of time. All three of these things work together to create a lifestyle for your family that's much more calm, and focused on Jesus as the center of your home. Doesn't that sound like a New Year's resolution worth keeping? If you would like more information about Foundations Christian School for your family, we'd love to talk with you. Contact us today! Doesn't it seem like only yesterday when you dropped your kids off for the first day of school? It's hard to believe that we're already celebrating a new year, and it won't be long before the kids return to school. When you think back over 2013, what immediately comes to your mind? Perhaps last year was a great one for your family. Perhaps 2013 was met with raises at work, promotions, great health and excellent grades in school for your kids. However, maybe 2013 wasn't quite so good. Many families faced a lot of challenges during the last year that left them feeling tired, worn out, and hoping that 2014 would be a year that held a bit of hope for them. No matter where you fall in either of these categories, we would love to have the opportunity to help your family in the coming year. Foundations Christian School in Horseheads offers a wonderful opportunity for your child to learn and grow, with a solid education that's based on the Word of God. Your child's teacher will give him or her one-on-one assistance in the classroom, and because our classes are so small, your child will thrive. We teach a measure of educational independence, but we also teach total dependence on God in every area of our lives. If you've spent the latter part of 2013 wishing there was an educational alternative for your child, you're not alone. Many parents have come against the Common Core for many reasons. At Foundations Christian School, we're here to tell you that you don't have to settle for a public school education for your child. He or she deserves the very best!
