It's the week of Thanksgiving, and here at Foundations Christian School, we're gearing up to enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving feast with the students. Once we finish the day today, it will be time for us to take a well-deserved break, while we enjoy some time with our families to celebrate this important holiday. This time of year, we always stress to the children that it's important to give thanks for everything we have. However, I'd like to challenge all of us to remain in a thankful spirit, even after the turkey has been carved and the pumpkin pie has been put away. That's a little bit harder, isn't it? The Bible says in 1 Chronicles 16:34, "Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever." Yes, it's important to remember to be thankful to God during the Thanksgiving season, but how thankful are we during the rest of the year? Even if your family is struggling with a trial right now, you still have a lot to be thankful for. Think about it:
Sometimes we forget that, compared to the rest of the world, we are truly a rich nation. We are so blessed, and it's important to remember how much God has given us. Here at Foundations Christian School, we'd like to wish you and your family a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving! If you'd like more information about Foundations Christian School, it's not too late to enroll your child for this school year. Just contact us, and we'll be more than happy to answer any of your questions.

On November 18 of this year, parents all over the country staged a protest of the Common Core. 16 states participated, according to a recent news article on CBS New York, and the protest consisted of keeping kids home from school for one day. Parents are angered because of the Common Core, which many of them believe places too much emphasis on testing, and not enough emphasis on learning. One parent was quoted as saying, "I feel that school should inspire children to find their true passion." The Common Core curriculum, which many states have adopted is supposed to keep kids on the same page, regardless of what school they are attending. It is also aimed toward helping kids think critically instead of simply coming up with the right answers. Here at Foundations Christian School, we understand that a "one size fits all" education simply doesn't work. Our students are proof that the way we're teaching them really does work. Our kids receive one-on-one attention. They are given guidance and instruction, but they're also responsible for doing some self-teaching because of the way the school is structured. We believe this form of teaching is creating independence, and it's also showing the kids exactly what they're capable of accomplishing. The pride on their faces when they get a good test grade, or when they figure out a difficult math concept for the first time is priceless. Are you upset about the Common Core? It's understandable. We're still taking students for the current school year. Please, contact us today! If you clicked on this post because you're just crazy about fudge, there's no way you'll want to miss the LAST DAY of the Foundations Christian School Fudge Sale. It's happening this coming Saturday, November 16! Look, we know that during this time of year, you can walk into any Gertrude Hawk store and pick up a box of fudge. You can even get all domestic and make some right at home. However, this fudge is OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD-AMAZING. I've never met the guy who makes it, but his name is Stephan Waters, and he takes his fudge-making seriously. He's a real professional, and once you taste his fudge, you'll see the difference between what he produces and what you can buy at Gertrude Hawk. You can get a variety of flavors of fudge this weekend, including:
We're going to be hanging out at Sam's Club for most of the day on Saturday, so come early to get the flavors you want before they sell out. Many of our flavors sold out quickly last weekend. We made about $1,000 during our first weekend, which is really awesome! If you'd like to order fudge ahead of time, you can get orders that are wrapped perfectly for Christmas. Just make your order through your favorite Foundations Christian School student. The prices are $7 for a half a pound and $12 for a pound. If you visit us at Sam's Club this weekend, you'll save money on your fudge because the prices are $6 for a half a pound and $10 for a pound. We'll be taking special orders for two more weeks, and we'll be at Sam's Club just ONE MORE DAY! Contact us for more information on Foundations Christian School, and we hope to see you all this weekend! Happy Veteran's Day from all of us here at Foundations Christian School! Our kids are enjoying a long weekend in remembrance of the sacrifices our troops have made, both overseas as well as right here at home. Did you know that the holiday we all know as Veteran's Day was originally called Armistice Day? President Woodrow Wilson began the tradition on November 11, 1919. Originally, Armistice Day was a day set aside to promote world peace. It wasn't until 1954 that Congress changed the reason for celebrating to be centered around honoring our nation's veterans for their service and dedication to our country. Do you know a veteran? Whether you have a parent who served in the military, or you're a military spouse, those who have served our country deserve all of the honor for their dedication. Some of them gave their lives for our freedom. For those who didn't pass away while they were serving in the military, many of them still struggle with the consequences of war. Post-traumatic Stress Syndrome is one affliction that many of our veterans suffer with, and it's a battle they will continue to fight for the rest of their lives. We all know someone who is a veteran. Take some time today to honor the veterans in your life, and make sure you thank them for their service.
