Happy Veteran's Day from all of us here at Foundations Christian School! Our kids are enjoying a long weekend in remembrance of the sacrifices our troops have made, both overseas as well as right here at home. Did you know that the holiday we all know as Veteran's Day was originally called Armistice Day? President Woodrow Wilson began the tradition on November 11, 1919. Originally, Armistice Day was a day set aside to promote world peace. It wasn't until 1954 that Congress changed the reason for celebrating to be centered around honoring our nation's veterans for their service and dedication to our country. Do you know a veteran? Whether you have a parent who served in the military, or you're a military spouse, those who have served our country deserve all of the honor for their dedication. Some of them gave their lives for our freedom. For those who didn't pass away while they were serving in the military, many of them still struggle with the consequences of war. Post-traumatic Stress Syndrome is one affliction that many of our veterans suffer with, and it's a battle they will continue to fight for the rest of their lives. We all know someone who is a veteran. Take some time today to honor the veterans in your life, and make sure you thank them for their service.
