Parents Keep kids home from school in protest of common core

On November 18 of this year, parents all over the country staged a protest of the Common Core. 16 states participated, according to a recent news article on CBS New York, and the protest consisted of keeping kids home from school for one day. 

Parents are angered because of the Common Core, which many of them believe places too much emphasis on testing, and not enough emphasis on learning. One parent was quoted as saying, "I feel that school should inspire children to find their true passion." The Common Core curriculum, which many states have adopted is supposed to keep kids on the same page, regardless of what school they are attending. It is also aimed toward helping kids think critically instead of simply coming up with the right answers. 

Here at Foundations Christian School, we understand that a "one size fits all" education simply doesn't work. Our students are proof that the way we're teaching them really does work. 

Our kids receive one-on-one attention. They are given guidance and instruction, but they're also responsible for doing some self-teaching because of the way the school is structured. We believe this form of teaching is creating independence, and it's also showing the kids exactly what they're capable of accomplishing. The pride on their faces when they get a good test grade, or when they figure out a difficult math concept for the first time is priceless.
